About Us

It was decided in December 2011 by a meeting of constituency members that the office building, which one can find at 1 Severinstraße, be named Heinz Renner Haus, after Heinrich Renner. It was officially given its name during a ceremony on 9th of September 2012.
Heiny Renner (born on the 8th of January 1892 in Lückenbergplatz/Pfalz, died on 11th of January 1964 in Berlin/GDR) was a member of the German Communist Party and mayor of Essen from February until October 1948. If you yourself happen to be looking for somewhere to host meeting, then simply write to us. You can find out more aboout Heinz renner haus by clicking here

DIE LINKE (The Left), Essen was founded in August 2007 and currently has around 370 members.

In 2017 we managed to produce share out 200,000 newspapers, flyers and brochures. Between February and September we ran 130 info-stands, our activists knocked at more 1,400 doors and held over more than 400 conversations. One can find 4 activists in our local constituency advice surgery.

Die Linke, Essen, stands for radical social change. We are against the insane neoliberal logic of privatisation and we demand the immediate nationalisation of those services and industries which play a vital role in our society and economy. Included among these neccesary parts of our economy are: the banking industry, the energy sectror, the transport sector, communications, health and housing. For us, these are all neccessary for a healthy society.

For us, bringing these industries and sectors into public ownership is not only a matter of creating better society and economy that works for all, but it also of central concern to the future of our planet. Sustaining the capitalist economic system has led to the destruction of the environment, bringing it to the edge of collapse. We, however, do not want our planet to be destroyed and we would like to save it. But to do this, we must overcome capitalism. So, lets begin, together!

The rich are getting richer, whilst, at the same time, more and more people are falling into poverty and seeing their quality of life worsen. In Essen, we only have to do a little looking to find out that the whole city belongs to a few people. Many others of us have to spend years looking for a job, whilst, at the same time, job positions are being regularly destroyed by market forces and the logic of profit-maximisation. In addition to this, many people find themselves in low-paid and insecure jobs.

We want to break with this out-dated and twisted logic. For us, it is people that are central, not profit: Higher wages, better and secure pensions, tax-breaks for people who earn less than 7, 200 euros and a clear higher tax raise on those earning more then 1 Million euros. But! Before anybody responds with “Oh, but that just means the rich people will take their money elsewhere and out of our economy”: We want to introduce Tax-Citizenship, meaning that every German in the world will pay their taxes here, in Germany! And, as a result: Bye-Bye taxhavens!

Not only do we make our case and fight within the parliamentary system but we also actively take this fight to the streets, in solidarity with other social movements and union struggles.

For us, the fight against capitalism, sexism, anti-semitism. Islamophobia and other forms of oppression are all part of the same struggle.

Join in!

Stand together with us for a society that works for the many, not the few.
